With the 1991 Nordic Ski World Championships in Val di Fiemme, the hisoty of winter sports gained a bright new chapter. For the first time, the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships were held south of the Alps. Thanks to radio, newspapers and television, the whole world was able to take part in the event, making Val di Fiemme known all over the world.
“The event exceeded all expectations. We were worried... for the first time the Nordic Ski World Championships were being held on the south side of the Alps, virtually in the Mediterranean area and in Trentino, were lemon trees blossoms and olive tree grow in summer" cit Giorgio Tononi, president OC Fiemme 1991.

MEDIA
1.259 Media accredited
In the 11 race days and the preceding 3 days, the Press Center was animated by 22.000 phone calls, 5.000 fax messages and curiously only 4 messages via telex (clearly, a tool that had been sidelined by then); about 6.000 rolls of film were developed by Fuji.
Only in Italy, the national media scene was flooded by news and reports circulated by the 140 journalists and photographers, setting a record for media coverage of a skiing event. At the same time, some 500 million contracts were realised - roughly as many as had been achieved by TV outlets.
ATHLETES & NATIONS
364 athletes from 27 nations
RAI followed the World Championships with an impressive technical and human organisation (230 people). The task of organising the filming (23 TV filming points at the Cross Country Stadium and 8 at the Ski Jumping Stadium) and the transmission (40 TV and radio reporter booths at the Cross Country Stadium and Ski Jumping Stadium) were distributed between the International Centre in Cavalese, the hearth of the organizational system, and the satellite Cross Country and Ski Jumping Centres
